Veterinary Dentistry

Poor oral health can lead to several issues for your pet, including pain, halitosis (bad breath), gingivitis (inflammation of the gums), and periodontal disease (inflammation of infection of the bones and ligaments that support the teeth). Regular dog, cat, and pet teeth cleaning is essential to prevent these problems. If left untreated, the disease can progress to abscesses, infection of the bone, and can even cause heart, liver, and kidney disease.

At St. Francis Animal Hospital, we provide comprehensive dental evaluations, including cleanings, digital dental radiographs (X-rays), extractions, and treatments for periodontal disease. For proper dental examinations and procedures, your pet will safely be placed under general anesthesia and be given a dental nerve block to reduce the amount of anesthetic required and help with post-operative pain management.

Digital dental radiographs allow our veterinarians to accurately and instantly see the health of your pet’s tooth roots, and bone surrounding the roots. This allows us to correctly diagnose and act on dental problems that your pet may have.

Digital radiographs provide us with quick results, reducing the time that your pet is anesthetized. We can manipulate the digital images, providing greater and more accurate diagnostic value, often reducing the number of radiographs needed. Digital dental radiographs help identify hidden conditions, such as tumors, fractured teeth, broken roots, and abscesses and are an invaluable diagnostic tool during dental cleanings.
